Lahaina, on Maui's west coast, is a historic whaling town turned tourist destination. Following the devastating 2023 wildfires, the community is rebuilding. Neighborhoods like Lahaina town, Kaanapali-adjacent areas, and the Honokowai area offer pet-friendly living with costs 28-42% above national average. The town's historic character, ocean access, and rebuilding community make it a resilient Maui pet community.
Practical strategies to reduce pet care costs
Daily brushing with enzymatic products can cut professional cleaning frequency in half.
Investing in quality brushes and steam tools saves on 6+ salon visits per year.
Annual wellness exams catch issues early, avoiding costly emergency treatments.
Buying in bulk or subscribing to auto-ship saves 15-20% on food costs.
Insurance premiums of $30-50/month can save thousands on emergency surgeries.
Professional dental cleanings cost $435-$725 per visit. Daily at-home care with the right tools can cut that frequency in half.
